The procedure is started respecting strict sterility. The skin subcutaneous layer, lumbar muscles and the articular process are infiltrated by local anethesia (1% lidocaine) with a 22-gauge needle 9 cm long. The position of the 22-gauge needle is checked by fluoroscopy and CT.
